The Interns' Sermon

My fellow intern, Brad, and I had the pleasure of teaching yesterday (Sunday) at Campus House. We were really nervous but we practiced a great deal and I think it went well. People affirmed so that's good.

The enemy has defiantly been telling us lies. We've had a lot of feelings of illegitimacy of our lesson. Satan wants us to believe it was trite and pointless but that's not the reaction we received.

Later I'll post the sermon and the Power Point slides. Until then...

I agree with John MacArthur (this time)

I finished re-reading a book yesterday and found myself with little to read today. While perusing through my extensive library (sarcasm) I noticed a book called Hard To Believe I was given as a Christmas gift two years ago. I was very reluctant to pick it up because the author, John MacArthur, is infamous for being a hard-nosed and at times harsh conservative Christian. The type of Follower I often try not to associate with.

With all that said, I thought he made some really good point in the first chapter entitled Tastes Great, Less Filling. He discussed the problems of the "Christian Lite" gospel. The one thing that most stuck out to me was this contemporary idea of a man-centered theology (oxymoron). The gospel is often explained as a product that can improve your self-esteem and health, and increase your wealth and pleasure. Jesus doesn't promise comfort; he even seems to suggest the complete opposite. We as Believers shouldn't try to lure people in with promises of unrealistic pay-off only to do the old bait and switch. It's dishonest. We should be truthful. Life will still be tough at times.

I will certainly not go as far to say I agree with many of the methods and beliefs of John MacArthur but we do agree on this. All this is to say that I've had an elitist attitude toward a lot of other people. I think I'm such a hip, young, novel thinker and I begin to think people with other ideologies have nothing to offer me. It's just not the case. As Bell say, "If it's true, claim it."

It goes to show that even a free-thinking, state school educated, Jesus-loving Christian that strives to be relevant to his culture can still learn a thing or two from a conservative, fundamentalist, Jesus-loving Christian. (Now I sound really pretentious)

I try not to take myself too seriously, I hope you do the same...

Welcome and welcomed

This is my first post. I have very little to say at the time being. If you are reading this, then you are probably one of billions of my subscribers. I was encouraged to blog so that people can keep up on what is going on with me here at Campus House and in my head. I plan on posting thoughts and observations but also links to articles and sites that interest me. So enjoy and go in peace...
